Primary Care Nurses

Our Primary Care Nurses are experienced nurses who work in partnership with the guidance of the doctors; both nurses are qualified to prescribe medication. Primary Care Nurses (PCN) can provide treatment and advice for many common problems and minor injuries (see list below) when you book an appointment you may be offered a same day with a PCN if the receptionist feels this is appropriate. Examples of conditions which the Primary Care Nurse can manage:

  • Asthma Attacks
  • Back pain
  • Blocked ears
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Chest Infection
  • Chicken pox
  • Colds/flu
  • Cough
  • Cystitis
  • Diarrhoea
  • Dizziness
  • Earache
  • Eczema
  • Emergency contraception
  • Haemorrhoids
  • Hay fever
  • Headache
  • Impetigo/skin infections
  • Ingrowing toe nail
  • Joint pain
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Raised temperature
  • Scabies
  • Shingles
  • Sore throat
  • Swollen glands/tonsillitis
  • Threadworms
  • Virus Infection
  • Vomitting
  • Water infection
  • Wounds,scalds & burns

When necessary the PCN can also refer you on for a GP appointment.

Practice Nurses        

It may be more appropriate to see one of our experienced nurses for some problems. Appointments can be made with the reception staff.

They can assist you with:

  • Cervical Smears
  • Dressings
  • Ear Syringing
  • Health Checks
  • Health Promotion every Thursday morning
  • Repeat Contraception
  • Support to Stop Smoking
  • Immunisations
  • Injections
  • Minor Injuries
  • Removal of Stitches
  • Travel Advice

Healthcare Assistants

Our healthcare assistant works alongside the nurses and can be seen for the following treatments:

  • ECG
  • Suture/staple removal
  • Simple dressings
  • Blood Pressure
  • Private medicals
  • Assisting GP for minor surgeries (coil/pessary fit)
  • B12 injection
  • Flu/pneumonia vaccinations on anyone over 16 years old
  • Ear syringing
  • Smoking cessation
